Flathead Lake United Methodist Camp – Capital Improvement Projects

The Flathead Lake United Methodist Camp is working on a couple of elephant-sized capital improvement projects in 2014.  After receiving numerous bad water samples last summer from an antiquated water system, with components that have been in place since the 1930’s, the Department of Environmental Quality is requiring us to install a new drinking water system. Last summer we had to use bottled water for the campers. There will be a new pump house with 4,000 gallons of water storage capacity, new pressure pump, chlorination system and new water distribution lines to all the buildings.  The present estimated cost of this entire project is expected to be about $250,000.

The camp is also working on a major remodel of the Hi-Line Cabin as a result of having an April 29th wind storm blow off the entire porch roof. The goal is to insulate the cabin for shoulder season use, to add a handicapped accessible bathroom and access features, and to vault the living area ceiling for increased structural integrity. We are about ¾ done with this $85,000 project with insurance covering about ½ the expense, but have run out of funding to finish it.

The Camp needs some help paying for these expensive but necessary upgrades. Camp Trustees are asking every Methodist church and membership in our Yellowstone Conference to help fund a portion of our need. Thanks to some generous donations, we are already more than half way to our goal.  Now, the good thing about elephant eating is that you eat it one bite at a time and lots of people eating lots of bites can put away an elephant in record time.

So, right now, we need you to take your bite – however big you choose – to help your camp deal with this elephant. Many kids are looking forward to spending time at the camp this summer.

Donations can be given to our Church with an earmark for the Flathead Lake United Methodist Camp or mailed directly to the camp at 21339 Methodist Camp Road in Rollins 59931. For more information, please contact Trustee Facility Chair – Rick Trembath trembath@centurytel.net 837-6298. There will be a visual presentation on these Camp projects at the March 9th Church service.

  1. Hi. Can we go through the conference so our church gets credit? Salmon UMC. Or is it easier to go through your Polson church?
